It can be a tough gig, but healthcare is Eleshia’s passion

Meet Eleshia, one of our dedicated Health Trainers and Assessors at Foundation Education.  

Although she’s now switched over to Training and Assessing, Eleshia is only able to share her rich knowledge and experience as a result of her extensive career as a Nurse.  

For Eleshia, it’s her passion for caring for others that kept her going through a decade-long career in nursing.  

That’s because it’s something she’s wanted to do as long as she can remember, expressing that she ‘always wanted to help and care for those who are unable to care for themselves, or need that extra support.’  But that doesn’t mean it was always easy. 

Eleshia admits that the healthcare industry can be difficult and tiring, but her love of helping people is a force that continually drives her forward. 

‘Caring for those who are unwell is a tough gig, but for me it’s passion.’ 

In order to handle the challenges she faced in a frequently emotionally difficult industry, Eleisha had to develop some key attributes. Resilience, patience, and care, as she explains, are some of the ‘most important skills when caring for others who are chronically ill.’ 

But hearing stories of improvement, and knowing that she’s been able to help her patients in any small way, is what has made her hard work all worthwhile in the end.  

Although she’s now working as a Trainer and Assessor, that feeling of fulfilment hasn’t stopped by any means. Eleshia loves hearing her students’ success stories, and seeing that she’s ‘helped them that little bit extra by sharing some of [her] knowledge along the way.’

But how did she know she wanted to start sharing her knowledge as a Trainer and Assessor in the first place? It all started with her experiences of helping new staff learn the ropes. 

‘I often had the opportunity to train other staff. This was something I thoroughly enjoyed, so I took the next step.’ 

From there, she saw that she could really make a difference to students’ learning, as she explains that she realised all of the ‘little tips and tricks’ she has learned along the way could benefit students on their journey of starting in the health industry. 

It’s not just her tips and tricks that provide students with all they need, however, as she’s a supporter of students getting a formal education. It’s through that formal education, she says, that students will ‘gain current and relevant knowledge’, and ‘learn the skills and practical elements required to become a great Allied Health or Health Assistant.’ 

Having been with us at Foundation Education for two years now, Eleshia shares the one thing that she feels sets us apart from others: the offering of tailored coaching calls to work through questions and assessments, helping students achieve their goals.  

‘[What makes Foundation Education different is] being able to have one on one conversations with students over the phone to support them along the way with their course.’  

For any prospective healthcare worker out there, Eleshia has some closing words of advice. 

‘Make sure you are passionate about the role. Continue to grow and ask lots of questions. Never be afraid to ask for help and support. A career in the health industry is very rewarding if you have the care and passion for it.
